At CCNC, we’re here to help your family stay healthy. We work with your doctor to make sure your little one gets the care they need, including important vaccines like the flu shot. Our goal is to ensure every family in North Carolina has access to quality healthcare, no matter where they live. Protecting your child’s health starts with simple steps – like getting their flu shots on time.

Why Get the Flu Shot?

For babies and toddlers, the flu can be more than just a seasonal illness – it can lead to serious complications. That’s why getting both flu shots before their second birthday is an important step in keeping them healthy. These early vaccines help build lifelong immunity, reducing the risk of hospitalization and protecting not only your child but also siblings, grandparents, and loved ones.

Flu season leads to more emergency room visits and missed day care days, but prevention starts with one simple step: getting their flu shots. Have questions? Talk to your doctor today.

When Should My Child Get the Flu Shot?

Children ages 6-24 months should receive the flu shot as early as possible in the season –ideally by the end of October – for the best protection before flu activity peaks (American Academy of Pediatrics). Babies getting their first flu shot will need two doses before their second birthday to build strong immunity.

If your child hasn’t received both doses yet, now is the time. Schedule a flu shot appointment with your child’s doctor today.

Flu Shot Benefits and Effectiveness

For babies and toddlers ages 6-24 months, the flu shot helps build strong immunity and lowers the risk of serious illness. It protects against high fevers, breathing problems, and hospital visits caused by the flu.

In 2023, the flu shot prevented flu symptoms in 7 out of 10 children (Centers for Disease Control). Getting both doses before their second birthday gives your child the best protection all season long.

Flu in NC – Know the Risks

Flu season in North Carolina can be tough on young children. In 2024, the flu led to more than 300 deaths statewide, including 16 children. In some weeks, nearly 1 in 5 emergency visits are due to flu-like symptoms, which is double or even triple what hospitals see during non-viral months (Duke Health).

The good news? Getting both flu shots helps protect your children. Talk to their doctor to learn more.
