Project Lazarus. Fred Brason II, CEO of Project Lazarus, was the keynote speaker for the CARE Coalition luncheon Feb. 26 at the Transylvania County Library. Approximately 50 people attended to hear Fred share the Project Lazarus model that has been successful in reducing prescription pill overdoses in Wilkes County. NC Medicaid Reform. On Monday, March 17, Governor McCrory’s Medicaid Reform Advisory Group announced a significantly revised proposal for reforming North Carolina’s Medicaid program. DHHS plans to utilize ACOs, while building on what NC already has in place, to put patients first, improve whole person care, increase budget predictability and help ensure the Medicaid program is sustainable. Beacon Community. Community Care of the Southern Piedmont is featured in a recent Population Health Management article about Beacon Communities using Health IT to optimize care management. Check it out here.

NC Medicaid Coverage. The Medicaid Advisory Group held a meeting on Feb. 26 and presented a framework to reform the N.C. Events

Cone Health Patient Education Summit. On Friday, April 11 Moses Cone Hospital will host an interdisciplinary conference to identify strategies for overcoming barriers and challenges in patient education and healthcare literacy. For details, go to the AHEC site

Lunch & Learn Webinars. CCME Consulting is hosting a free lunch and learn webinar series. Upcoming webinars include, “North Carolina Health Information Exchange: Public Health Lessons Learned and Achieving Meaningful Use” on March 12 and “Patient Portal 101” on April 16. AHEC CE Workshop. The Charlotte AHEC Center for Learning @ Development will host “Leadership Strategies for Reducing Avoidable Hospital Readmissions” on Wed., April 22 from 9-4 p.m. The event will provide hospital leadership and clinicians both technical and behavioral strategies to reduce avoidable readmissions that impact both the quality of care and reduce the financial impact of hospital readmissions. NC HIE

  • NC OBGYN Society Annual Meeting. The NC Obstetrical and Gynecological Society will host its 2014 Annual Meeting on April 11-13 in Pinehurst. NC HIE will be exhibiting at the event. For more information and to register, click here.
  • NC PATH. With the extension of federal Stark legislation, funding is still available to help practices implement a certified electronic medical record (EMR) in 2014. NC PATH is open to free clinics and practices that are in-network (Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC) and currently without a certified EMR solution. MOC IV Offering. North Carolina has developed and received approval for an “Oral Health” module as a Maintenance of Certification Part IV Performance in practice quality improvement activity. The aim of the project is to promote the importance of a dental home for young children in the care of pediatric and family practices, in order to decrease oral health decay and promote overall health and well-being for children and their families. The project is now open for registration. Check out this flyer for additional information.

CM Mobile Application. The CMIS development has completed its initial phase of the CM Mobile Application, which provides users with the capability to complete patient documentation in an offline mode from a mobile device and synchronize documentation at a later time. The first assessment tool introduced is CCNC’s Comprehensive Health Assessment. The application was released to the CMIS Alpha Site March 1 for the pilot group’s testing.

Strategic Planning Seminar. Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business is hosting Strategic Planning for the Future of Health Care, a 3-day Executive Education course that will challenge participants to think more strategically and creatively about how their business can continue to prosper in health care's new landscape. Kudos! Sajid Hussain earned his PMI-ACP (Project Management Institute - Agile Certified Practitioner) certification! The PMI-ACP certification recognizes an individual’s expertise in using agile practices in their projects, while demonstrating their increased professional versatility through agile tools and techniques. Also, the PMI-ACP certification carries a higher level of professional credibility as it requires a combination of agile training, experience working on agile projects, and examination on agile principles, practices, tools and techniques.
